Legally Blonde: The Musical

Legally Blonde: The Musical was a production made in 2007 by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin. Although most people know about the Legally Blonde film, the musical is a bit less popular, and it’s such a shame.

The musical stars Elle Woods, a bubbly cheerful girl who somehow ends up in Harvard Law School. When asked to pick between beauty or brains, Elle Woods proves to everyone that she can choose both, and that there’s no reason you can’t anyways.

Although Elle’s motives at first were to follow her ‘true love,’ Warner, to Harvard Law (who dumped her because she wasn’t ‘serious’ enough for a soon-to-be lawyer like him), she is often questioned by her peers, not taken seriously for how she looks - she is underestimated, but all began to change, with the help of the people who truly believe in her talent.

Legally Blonde: The Musical is truly amazing in my opinion, and although the movie is amazing, the musical was able to develop the plot and the characters much, much, better. I also really love the little details they put in their actions, or the characters surrounding Elle in general, who are very encouraging of her. The musical is just really fun after all, with all the dancing and quirky scenes, but it doesn’t forget to address the fact that you can truly be anything you want regardless of what people say.

Surely, you can look forward to the musical’s girl power themes, Irish dancing, dogs, and of course, their very iconic song, “Gay or European.” And remember, if Elle Woods can wear a pink dress to a court trial, and somehow win the case with her knowledge of both law and perm maintenance, who’s to say you can’t too?

The whole Legally Blonde musical can be found on Youtube. It also comes with subtitles for songs, so you’ll be able to understand them clearly.
